Description
A historic property located in the Loire Valley, Domaine de l’Ecu is widely considered one of the top producers of Muscadet-Sevre-et-Maine. Gaining notoriety under the direction of famed grower Guy Bossard, it was purchased by winemaker Fred Niger in 2010. One of the earliest properties to embrace organic farming, it has been certified by Ecocert for over 40 years and certified biodynamic by Demeter for over 20 years. Unlike most producers of Muscadet, the white wines are aged sur-lie for 15-18 months, adding exceptional texture and complexity.
The Muscadet-Sevre-et-Maine Orthogneiss is made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne harvested from 45-55 year old biodynamic farmed vines planted to orthogneiss soil ( a metamorphosed igneous rock where minerals are arranged in bands). Broad shouldered with electrifying acidity, it is as complex as it is delicious.
