D’Arenberg The Dry Dam Riesling

$28.55

Created in 1912, the d’Arenberg winery is today run by Chester Osborn, the fourth generation of his family to manage the property. Located in McLaren Vale with around 200 hectares of vines, the winery also produces wines made from grapes sourced from the Adelaide Hills wine region and other parts of the Fleurieu zone. Standard bearers for McLaren Vale, the winery gained cult status during the 1960’s. Specializing in Rhône varieties, they farm their vines according to organic and biodynamic principles. A true eccentric, Chester is described as the “Willy Wonka of wine”.

The 2012 Museum Release d’Arenberg The Dry Dam Riesling is an excellent example of how well dry Australian Riesling can develop with some time in the bottle. With a few years under the belt, it is less austere and wound up. Still showing lovely acidity and citrus notes, it has developed subtle flinty notes and a complex mouthfeel. The finish is dry and lingering.
