Chateau Potensac Medoc Cru

Château Potensac acquired its name from its location on top of the Potensac plateau. This  leading Cru Bourgeois estate is owned by the Delon family, who also own Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, and Château Nénin. During the 1970’s, Michel Delon inherited Château Potensac from his paternal grandmother and raised the quality of the wines substantially.

Château Potensac is today managed by Michel’s son, Jean-Hubert, who is aided by maître de chai Bruno Roalland. The estate’s 60 hectares of vineyards are planted to hilly mounds with limestone sub-soils  covered with gravel and clay outcrops. The soil composition is very similar to that found in neighbouring Saint-Estèphe.
The 2018 Château Potensac is made from a cuvée of 45% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine was aged in 35% new oak barrels for only 14 months (shorter than usual) to avoid getting too much oak tannin.
