Amongst Californian wine aficionados, Thomas Rivers Brown & Matt Hardin require very little introduction. The creator of over 30 100-Point wines, Rivers Brown is one of California’s most sought after winemakers. His name has been attached to such notable marques as Schrader Cellars, Outpost, Maybach, Pulido-Walker, and Rivers-Marie. A 6th generation Napa Valley farmer, Hardin is a partner in Barbour Vineyard Management. His company has managed the elite vineyards of wineries such as Hundred Acre, Revana, Jones Family, Checkerboard, and Alejandro Bulgheroni. After many years working together Thomas and Matt formed a partnership and created Caterwaul wines.
The 2018 Caterwaul Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was made from grapes harvested primarily from sustainably farmed vineyards in St. Helena. The wine was aged in 60% new French oak barrels for 20 months. Thanks to a near perfect growing season, this wine shows excellent depth and structure. Full bodied with well-hewn tannins, it shows striking notes of creme de cassis, black currants, cedar, and dark chocolate. An opulent wine, it will reward collectors with 20+ years of potential cellar time.
