Chris Brockway is the owner and winemaker at Broc Cellars. Based in an urban area of Berkley, Chris works with organic or biodynamic farmed grapes harvested from unexplored or forgotten vineyards . Originally from Omaha, he started his career with larger producers, learning in his words, what not to do. Today he puts farming first and isn’t afraid to work with unconventional grape varieties.
Featured in Jon Bonné’s influential book, New California Wine, the Vine Starr Zinfandel is one of Broc Cellars most important wines. It is made from grapes harvested from Arrowhead and Buck Hill Vineyards in Sonoma County. The grapes were 70% destemmed, naturally fermented in 5-ton stainless steel tanks and aged for 10 months in neutral French oak barrels.
