BK Wines Carte Blanche White

Brendon Keys is considered one of Australia’s leading natural winemakers. Once a chef in his native New Zealand, he relocated to South Australia after a stint winemaking in Argentina and years travelling the globe. Starting small, he produced his first two barrels of Pinot Noir in 2007. Collaborating with like minded grape growers who farm sustainably, Brendons’ approach in the winery is to be as hands off as possible. At the vanguard of what is considered “modern” Australia, his wines show a keen interest in experimentation and stand in stark contrast to the Aussie fruit bombs of the 1990’s.

“Carte Blanche literally means ‘white map’… a tabula rasa on which to chart whatever journey moves the spirit. Such is the freedom of the blend. We start this wine with Chardonnay barrels that just don’t fit the single-vineyard profile – rogue outliers with rebellious personalities. We combine them a lashing of Savagnin (10%), a sprinkling of Pinot Gris, a whisper of Grüner (possibly an etc etc here and there) and the surprisingly harmonious result is as friendly and comforting as the layers and layers of a Sara Lee. Apple pie and ice cream, perfumed and soft on the palate, though neither simple nor two-dimensional with signature texture and an enticing beeswax roundness. Drinks precariously easily.” – BK Wines
