Argot winemaker Justin Harmon is a rising star in Californian wine. Producing a tiny amount of highly sought after wines, he's drawn the attention of industry insiders. In the word's of Jeb Dunnuck, "If you haven’t heard of Justin Harmon, you should write that name down." Although today a known entity, he wasn't originally planning a career as a winemaker. A former chemical engineering major, he was first drawn to winemaking in his 20's, making his first wine from grape concentrate. A quick learner, he honed his skills in the basement of his parents house. In 2006 his breakthrough moment came when he had the opportunity to work for Russell Bevan in Sonoma County. This led Justin to produce his first wine in 2007 from 1 ton of Syrah. In 2009, he and business partner Karissa Kruze had the opportunity to work with a parcel of vines on Sonoma Mountain that were owned by her family. These vines became the estate Argot vineyard. Today Justin produces only 2,400 cases of wine, which are snatched up quickly by devoted collectors.
"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 1555 Oakville wafts sensuously out of the glass with redcurrant jelly, black raspberries and rose oil scents, followed by a cassis and black plums core, with emerging suggestions of cinnamon toast, cedar and pencil shavings.
